Syntropical winter garden

I could not help taking out my camera and record the beauty on this lazy Saturday stroll, mid July 2026

To start with let me show 3 of our crossings over Champion Creek which were recently renovated by Luke, our last WWOOFer, inspired by the beaver dam technique. This way water still flows but slower thus retained longer upstream. Plus the crossings are way more durable using rocks sourced from the spoils of the second dam that we are slowly digging.

It's nice to see these man-made beaver dams at work after the rain !

Continuing the water flow streak, it's so good to see the swales filled up in paddock 1 and paddock 2. We dug these mid March this year during the draught with hope they will gorge and keep the water up in the fields when the next rain come. And they did ! Water flows lazily through the circuit of swales, and our 2 syntropic paddocks now have interconnected tissues: the nutrient highway is on ! As our friend Will from Minimbah farm calls it.

Then I have to show syntropic ag at play in paddock 2, row 4, where the tansy is hugging the trees and protecting the ground, especially astonishing to see is how the banana and mulberries trees seem to enjoy the symbiosis with Tansy.

Finally our peach trees are blooming ! Their delicate pink flowers look like cherry tree blooms which give a little feel of early spring yet we are middle of winter 💚❄️🎃
